No app can vouch for a stranger. Here is what HotMess actually does, and what stays on you.

What the app does

• Shows you what is confirmed. The HotMess Check breaks a profile into seven signals so you can see what someone skipped.
• Caps cold messages at one. Somebody who has not matched with you gets a single message, sitting in Requests, until you decide.
• Makes blocking absolute. Blocking deletes the conversation for both sides and neither of you appears in the other's feed again.
• Keeps your swipes private. Nobody can see who liked them or who passed.

What a score does not tell you

A 95 means someone filled in their profile and confirmed their email. It says nothing about whether they are kind, honest in person, or safe to be alone with. Treat it as one input, never as permission to skip your own judgement.

Meeting someone

• First meeting in public, somewhere with other people around.
• Tell a friend where you are going and when you expect to be back.
• Arrange your own transport, both directions.
• Video call first if anything feels off — most catfish will not.
• Leave the moment you want to. You never owe anyone the rest of the evening.

If something goes wrong

Use the menu on any profile or conversation to report and block. Reports are read by a person. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first — we are not an emergency service.
